Elizam Escobar was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico in 1948. Painter, poet and art theoretician. He graduated from Fine Arts at the University of Puerto Rico. He lived in New York City in the 70’s where he continued his studies and artistic work. From 1980 to 1999 he was imprisoned in the US for his involvement in the clandestine arm struggle for the national independence of Puerto Rico. Since 2000 he is a professor at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas in San Juan, directing the Painting Department for three years. His artwork has been exhibited at the national and international level. Has published in many anthologies and magazines about politics, cultural theory and poetry.
